BARCELONA, Spain - Nokia unveiled two new Eseries devices at the Mobile World Congress. The Nokia E55 boasts a full keyboard, a candybar form factor, the new Nokia Messaging email client, and comes in three stylish colours.
The form of keyboard used in the E55 is not common on Nokia's portfolio. The two-letter per key scheme is usually seen in BlackBerry phones, and was also used on the Sony Ericsson M600. The E55 and the E75 are the first Eseries phones to come with the Nokia Messaging application pre-installed, a move that Nokia interprets as a way towards email efficiency. Furthermore, the two new phones also have access to Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes.
The Nokia E55 comes with HSDPA and HSUPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, built-in A-GPS with digital compass, and a 3.5mm audiovisual jack. The phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera with enhanced fixed focus, LED flash, and video recording in VGA resolution (640x480 pixels).
The device is based on Symbian OS9.3 with S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2, runs on an ARM 11 processor with 600MHz, and is supported by a healthy 1500mAh battery.
Impressively, even though being a enterprise phone, the E55 feels quite light, and it does weighs 98g only. It measures 116x49x9.9mm. The space has been sacrificed to give way to a full keyboard, which is not immediately easy to type in, it does take time if you are not used to the layout.
There are three colour versions of this phone, and we were only able to handle two of them: black aluminium and white aluminium. The red version was not available at the time.

From a frontal perspective, it is possible to see that the E55 follows the general Nokia layout. There is a ear speaker and a secondary camera located above the display. This camera is commonly used for video calls.

Below the display, a keypad section lies on a metal strip. This section contains the call keys, soft keys, d-pad, and four commonly seen keys in Eseries phones: home, calendar, messaging, and backspace.
The bottom section of the keypad has a numeric pad, and on either side, there is a column of buttons.
The keypad is general is well-lifted, but not well-spaced. The keys are crammed, but with experience, the feeling might not be the same.
It is also visible from the images below that the phone is surrounded by a metal strip, a move transmitting style.

On the right side of the phone there is an oddly placed camera shutter button, a volume rocker, and a voice tag key. The colour of the keys contrasts that of the entire phone.

The microUSB port and the microSD memory card slot are located on the left side of the phone.

The top section of the E55 contains the 3.5mm jack and power button.

The camera, its flash, and the speakers, are located on the back part of the phone. The back cover, just like on recent Eseries phones, is also made originally, in order to keep a constant style feature on the phone.

Users familiar with BlackBerry phones, and other devices which have the same sort of keyboard as the E55, might find themselves attracted to this phone. The way Nokia has blended style and business features on this, and other recent phones, not only Eseries, will be a market winner, and the E55 is possibly bound to that success.
